Full transparency in our fees

Nobody likes surprises – especially on their monthly statement. As part of our commitment to transparent pricing, we’ve made this list to show some common fees you could incur as a Questrade customer. Please note: the following fees are behaviour-based, so you may never see them.

Exchange fees

Electronic communication networks (ECNs) and alternative trading systems (ATSs) are intermediaries that connect brokers to the market. They facilitate all transactions and add liquidity to the markets. ECNs apply to U.S. listed securities while ATSs apply to Canadian securities. In general, ECNs and ATSs charge fees whenever an order removes liquidity from the market. This may add on to the cost of your trade in addition to general commissions.

Currency exchange fee

When you need to exchange currency at Questrade, there is a fee of 1.5%. The fee is included in the total foreign exchange rate that is applied to your conversion.

How to keep your currency exchange costs low

All Questrade accounts are dual-currency. This means you can hold Canadian and U.S. dollars at the same time, letting you avoid forced currency conversion fees on each transaction 3.
