Submit an Index Template
Published: Jun 11, 2026
Every custom index starts from an idea.
The companies behind the AI boom. The market, minus the one company whose owner you can’t stand. The emerging market you've followed since before it made the headlines.
We want to hear them. And turn them into a thought starter for other investors.
That's what this page is for. Submit a template built around your idea, and if it brings something new, it joins the library other self-directed investors start from.

What is an index template?
A template is a starting point for a custom index. It comes with a set of holdings and target weightings already in place, organized around a single idea.
That idea can be almost anything: broad-market exposure, or a thesis no fund has caught up to yet.
You don't have to take a template as-is. Add a stock, remove one, shift the weight of a sector. The template gives you somewhere to begin. What you build from there is yours.
What makes a template useful to the next person is the thinking behind it. It saves them the blank page, and shows them a way of reading the market they might not have considered.
What makes a good template
The best templates illustrate their thesis.
Someone reading yours should be able to look at the holdings and weightings and understand the idea behind it. Which companies you chose, which you left out, and how much weight each one carries.
A few things separate a strong template from a list of tickers:
It makes a clear point. "The companies building Canada's energy transition" is a thesis someone can agree with, push back on, or build from. "Good stocks to own" isn't.
The weightings carry the idea. If a handful of companies are central to your thesis, let the weightings say so.
It stands on its own. Someone who's never heard your reasoning should still see what the template is for.
You don't need a finance background to build one. You need a point of view, and the holdings to back it up.
How to submit your template
If you've got a market thesis that deserves its own index, pitch it to us here (opens in a new tab). You’ll share your index name and a short description of the idea behind it—a unique name and strong description is what makes your template worth starting from.
From there, our team reviews each submission for one thing: an original thesis. We're looking for templates that bring a distinct point of view. If yours is a fit, you’ll hear from us via email to submit your official index template, and it will join the template library where other investors can start from it and make it their own.
For now, templates are published without an author name. We're keeping it simple to start.
